Red flags when choosing a remote staffing provider

Eight questions that separate a dependable provider from a résumé broker.

Ask these before you sign

  • Do I interview and choose the person? If not, walk away.
  • Is the person dedicated to my business, or shared?
  • Who supervises them, and what do I receive weekly?
  • What happens when they are sick or on holiday?
  • What happens if it does not work out — and who pays to replace them?
  • Do they work in my tools, under my access controls?
  • Who owns the work they produce?
  • Will you give me a written cost before I commit?

The pattern behind the red flags

Providers who cannot answer these questions are usually placing people, not managing seats. The difference shows up in month three, when the initial enthusiasm fades and only process remains.
